If your kids love sushi trains, they’re going to LOVE this fun dinner idea. Instead of sushi, we created our own Chicken Express Train loaded with our favorite Soules Kitchen chicken and easy sides the whole family can grab and enjoy.

As a family of six, we’re always looking for dinners that are quick to put together but still get the kids excited to come to the table. This one turned an ordinary chicken dinner into an experience — and the boys thought having their food delivered by train was the coolest thing ever.

What Is a Chicken Express Train?

Think of it like a sushi conveyor belt…but with chicken!

We set up a toy train around the dinner table and loaded small plates and train cars with crispy Soules Kitchen chicken, dipping sauces, veggies, fruit, and some of our favorite easy sides.

The train travels around the table and everyone grabs what they want as it passes.

It’s simple, interactive, and such a fun way to make family dinner feel special without making a complicated meal.

What You'll Need

For the Chicken Express:

  • 1–2 packages Soules Kitchen Chicken Bites or your favorite Soules Kitchen chicken
  • French fries, tater tots, or roasted potatoes
  • Cucumbers, carrots, or another easy veggie
  • Fresh fruit
  • Your favorite dipping sauces
  • Small plates or bowls

For the train:

  • A battery-operated toy train and track, we used this one: LINK
  • Small food-safe plates, cups, or containers that fit on or inside the train cars

How to Make a Chicken Express Train

First, prepare the Soules Kitchen chicken according to the package directions until hot and ready to serve.

While the chicken is cooking, prepare your sides. We like keeping everything simple because the train itself is what makes this dinner so much fun.

Set up your train track around or alongside the dinner table. Place the cooked chicken and sides onto small plates or containers that can safely ride on the train cars.

Then comes the fun part…

Start the Chicken Express!

Send the train around the table and let everyone grab their favorites as they pass. Keep refilling the cars with chicken, sides, and sauces until everyone is full.

Our Favorite Chicken Express Train Foods

You can completely customize your train based on what your family likes. Some of our favorites are crispy chicken bites, fries, mac and cheese, cucumber slices, carrots, berries, grapes, ranch, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, and ketchup.

You could even add a dessert car at the end!

Why We Love This Dinner

The best part about the Chicken Express isn't really the train — it's that everyone slows down, sits around the table, and has fun eating together.

Soules Kitchen chicken makes the actual dinner part incredibly easy, while the train turns it into something the kids will remember.

And when you're feeding four hungry boys, anything that makes them excited about dinner is a win in our house.

Chicken Express Train Tips

Make sure your train is sturdy enough to carry the food and keep portions small so the cars aren't overloaded. Always use food-safe plates or containers rather than putting food directly onto the toy.

For younger kids, have an adult operate the train and keep little hands away from the wheels and track.

You can also skip putting sauces on the moving train and leave them at the table to avoid spills.

Make It Your Own

The Chicken Express can become an entire family dinner tradition.

Try a Taco Train, Breakfast Train, Pizza Train, or even a Dessert Express.

But around here, the Chicken Express might be hard to beat.
